NASA: Chile Quake May Have Shifted Earth's Axis
Chilean earthquake may have resulted in a shorter day and a slight shift in the Earth's axis.Just a few days ago, an earthquake that measured 8.8 rocked Chile. The quake was stronger than the temblor that left thousands homeless in Haiti not too long ago. This week, NASA says it may have been strong enough to cause the Earth's axis to move.
BusinessWeek cites a National Aeronautics and Space Administration scientist who says the Chilean earthquake on February 27 probably shifted the Earth’s axis and shortened your Saturday by about 1.26 microseconds.
Richard Gross, a geophysicist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California told BW that Earthquakes can shift hundreds of kilometers of rock by several meters, changing the distribution of mass on the planet. This in turn can have an effect on the Earth's rotation.
“The length of the day should have gotten shorter by 1.26 microseconds (millionths of a second),” Gross, said. “The axis about which the Earth’s mass is balanced should have moved by 2.7 milliarcseconds (about 8 centimeters or 3 inches).”
However, it's not just NASA that thinks the quake could have affected the Earth in ways we're unaware of. Andreas Rietbrock, a professor of Earth Sciences at Liverpool University says Santa Maria Island off the coast of Chile may have been raised 2 meters as a result of the earthquake. Rietbrock said rocks there show evidence that suggests other earthquakes have shifted the island upward in the past.

Saudi author murdered for 'forsaking Wahhabism'
A female Saudi author has been reportedly murdered by her family members for expressing support for the non-Wahhabi Islamic faiths, including Shiism.
Belqeis Molhem was murdered by two of her "fanatical" brothers in the Shia-populated city of al-Ahsa, east of Saudi Arabia, some months ago, the Kuwaiti Arabic language daily Al-Watan reported.
Also a poetess and a teacher, the 1977-born Molhem had graduated in Islamic studies from the King Faisal University
Molhem's death is blamed on her religious stance and her positive position on the Islamic faiths other than the Kingdom's official religion of Wahhabism -- an extremely intolerant interpretation of Islam.

Iran Celebrates its 31st year of Islamic Revolution
Thousands of Iranians are rallying to mark the 31st anniversary of its Islamic revolution.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attacked the West, and said Iran had produced its first stock of 20% enriched uranium.
It is the most important day in Iran's political calendar.Official events are being held across Iran, but the main gathering is at Tehran's Azadi Square. State TV showed tens of thousands of people filling the streets.
Mr Ahmadinejad told the crowds Iran was now a "nuclear state" and would soon treble output of 20% enriched uranium. He added that Western countries were hampering genuine reform in Iran.
Today has certainly been a victory for the Iranian government. Inspite of a huge turnout today, western media mainly BBC and CNN are reporting it in a negative perspective.

Prison riot broke out at Makka's female penal institution
Twelve prisoners involved in the riot at a women's correctional facility in the holy city of Makka have been transferred to other parts of Saudi Arabia as authorities have launched a probe into the incident. The Directorate of Social Affairs in Makka transferred the 12 female inmates to detention centers in Tabuk and Qaisumah, Jeddah as well as Ta'if. Scores of the women's families, however, have not been informed about the transfer, the Saudi Gazette reported on Thursday.
On Friday night, a prison riot broke out at Makka's female penal institution after a large group of detainees clashed with the facility workers protesting against a humiliating refusal by social authorities to dismiss the prison director and several other employees. Four inmates and several members of the staff were injured in the unrest.
The female detainees accused the penitentiary director of beating them on their hands with wooden rulers. The women claimed that the female director met with them on January 4 and threatened them with punishment and beatings if they refused to obey her orders.
The inmates charged that they were often violently frisked after family visits. They were also not allowed to speak to any official that occasionally visited to inspect the conditions at the correctional facility.
Meanwhile, the Undersecretary of Saudi Ministry of Social Affairs Abdullah al-Yousef has pledged to take action against any person who has violated the rights of the prisoners.
“We should let the authorities have an opportunity to investigate, without any sensationalism,” he said.
Al-Yousef said that an investigation committee has been set up and given five days to complete its probe and issue a report, but more time may be required.
He asserted that a correctional facility should have “privacy and security requirements,” noting that “a correction home is not an administrative office.”

The Barbaric Mutawwas: Saudi schoolgirl gets 90 lashes for cell phone
A Saudi court has sentenced a 13-year-old Saudi schoolgirl to 90 lashes and two months in prison after she was caught with a mobile phone equipped with a camera. The girl, who has not been named, is sentenced to 90 lashed in her school in front of her classmates followed by two months in detention.
The sentences come after she was caught with a cell phone equipped with camera. The gadget is banned in girls' schools.......
In 2006, a Saudi teenager was sentenced to 200 lashes and six months in prison after she was the victim of a gang rape.
The judge sentenced the female victim to more lashes than her assailants. A court had originally sentenced the rapists to jail terms of between 10 months and five years. .....
In March, 2002, at least fourteen schoolgirls died at a school in Saudi Arabia after religious police stopped them from fleeing a fire. The religious police maintained that they could not leave the building because they were not wearing correct Islamic dress.
Saudi Arabia appoints religious police, commonly known as mutaween, to patrol public places in teams to enforce the Kingdom's brand of ultra-conservative Islam. >>>>>Read in detail

Breaking News
Monday, January 18, 2010
When in Hajj one will find these common words spell out loudly; shirk, haraam, bid'at, kufr, etc. Specially these are heard in Madina, in Masjidun Nabawi and Jannatul Baqi. If you face the green tomb from outside Masjid and recite Ziyarat of Paighambar (s.a.), or inside the Masjid from Riyazul Jannah facing the Zareeh or in Jannatul Baqee facing the graves of A'immah. In these places a bearded man comes from nowhere and showers the above mentioned words and forcefuly makes you face the qiblah. This ignorant man thinks that the Zaer is a practicing Mushrik, a Kaafir and a disobedient Muslim. These people are religous police called "Mutawwa". The self appointed and chosen ones of Allah. But, certain times these Mutawwas are helpless or they speechless. See the photo above, it is of the King of Saudi Arabia, Abdullah, who is facing towards the grave of the Messenger (s.a.), not towards qiblah. The king seemed to be asking something from the Prophet. His action is not a Shirk nor a Bid'at nor a Kufr and not Haraam. Because a Muslim king is Zillul Laah (shadow of Allah) (sic). He is above shari'at.

Woes of America

The first found that more Americans are rejecting religion and thus, according to CNN, America is becoming "less Christian." The second, a Pew survey of only 742 mostly white evangelical Protestants, revealed that more than six in 10 of them believe that torture is often or sometimes justified.>>>Read full

Martyrdom of 4th Imam, Imam Zainul Aabedeen (a.s.)
A poet has nicely paid tribute to Imam (a.s.) in the following words.
It is full of sorrow, full of rue.
You: the Best of the Worshippers,
You: The Lord of the Worshippers.
One died, one took birth
Stars of your prostrations on the earth.
Under your feet is MARWA;
Wherever you pace there is KA’BA,
You are a necklace if faith were a bride
Over heavens you are our planet’s pride.

Incident of Imam Zainul Abideen's (as) Worship (Ibadah)
Taawus-e-Yemeni once entered Hijr-e-Ismail after midnight and saw Imam Zainul Abideen (as) in prostration (Sajdah). He felt as though Imam Zainul Abideen (as) was repeating something. As he came closer, Taawus heard the Imam Zainul Abideen (as) saying:
ILAAHI UBAYDUKA BI-FINAA-IK, MISKEENUKA BI-FINAA-IK, FAQEERUKA BI-FINAA-IK
"O my Lord! Your most humble servant is at Your doorstep. A beggar is at Your doorstep. A needy is at Your doorstep."
Taawus says that after this incident, whenever I encountered any hardships and sicknesses, I would go into Sajdah and recite these words of Imam Zainul Abideen (as) and I would experience relief. (Ahsan al-Muqaal)
